Kate McGarrigle died of cancer Monday, January 18. In this video recorded a month before her passing, she is singing the Old Waits Carol surrounded by her family. Though partially obscured by the microphone, you can see her raise her hand to her throat part-way through, a gesture that perhaps betrays the fact that she was feeling ill and tired yet was determined to live each moment to the last.
