Carbon offsetting can be exhiliarating

Well, we took another step toward 'zero footprint' living yesterday while purchasing an airline ticket for son Ryan's annual Christmas holiday visit.

I was just completing the online transaction at Air Canada when I was politely asked if I'd like to help offset the CO2 emissions that would be caused by the flight.

I jumped at the chance and was whisked away to a site called zerofootprint.net. Here, I was asked to type in the departure and destination cities and the computer did the calculation. In order for us to offset Ryan's return flight from Vancouver to Montreal, the fee was just over $12 plus tax.

What a bargain for a great feeling of doing the right thing! Now if only I could steel myself to pick up the litter in my neighbourhood when I don't have rubber gloves handy.

That's awesome, Mom! I've never heard of this organization. I'm impressed that they're linked to the air travel company. That's encouraging. Seems like a brilliant idea and one that could genuinely make a difference. Bravo Zerofootprint.net!
